Introduction: Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany
Marxistisch-Leninistische Partei Deutschlands, MLPD

Founded in 1972 as the Communist Workers' Association of Germany, or KABD (Kommunistischer Arbeiterbund Deutschlands), it was one of several so-called K-groups in the 1970s. Most of them styled themselves "Maoist" (i.e. they were opposed to the Soviet communists and their followers), for example, in West Germany the DKP. The KABD, being somewhat more dogmatic than others, survived the 1970's - most others did not - and transformed itself in 1982 into the MLPD.
The MLPD is now the second-largest communist party in Germany, with about 2,000 members. Its main activity is in the traditional worker areas at Rhein and Ruhr (North Rhine-Westphalia). The MLPD takes part in elections; for instance in the elections to the Bundestag in 1994 and 1998 it got 0,02% and 0,01%, respectively. In the left-radical political scene of Germany the party is rather isolated; it has contacts to foreign affiliated parties, though - for instance in Turkey and Peru.

Description of MLPD Flag

The flag is red with the logo in yellow, outlined black, in the canton. The logo shows a hammer and sickle and a book; on the hammer the initials of the party "MLPD" in black. The logo is used since the foundation of the party in 1982. The reverse of the flag shows the logo in the same way as the obverse, i.e. not mirrored.
Before 1982 the logo of the precursor organization KABD was used, probably also on flags. I do not have any information on how these flags looked like.

At the anti-war demonstration in Munich 31 March 2003, a variant simply showing the yellow inscription "MLPD" on a red field could be seen (see a picture in my website).
